Islamic Finance Bloom or Doom?
When a businessman asked a banker, “what is Islamic Finance?”, he was given a list of prohibitions: interest, uncertainty, investing gambling, investing in this and that investments.
That was back in 2013-2014 when Islamic Finance was hot in Singapore, and while things have been relatively quiet, could we have branded Islamic Finance much more differently?
Environmental Social Governance (ESG), Socially Responsible Investments (SRI), Corporate Social Responsibility, and several other measures actually scream Islamic Finance, but why has it only been “rebranded” as such? Furthermore, why would Islamic finance be relevant to the man on the street? Is it still playing catch up to its conventional counterpart?
