FAQ #94: What is the objective of the Malay tradition of saying ‘I buy’ and the seller responding ‘I sell’?

The Tradition of “I Buy” and “I Sell”: Emphasizing Mutual Consent in Transactions #

Original question:
I observed that the Malays have a tradition of saying “I buy” and the seller will then say “I sell” whenever they are concluding a purchase. What is the objective?

It actually goes back to the principle of buying and selling which emphasises the need for both parties to accept that the transaction is being done.

The buyer agrees to purchase the product with the stipulated price whereas the seller agrees to sell the product at the price mentioned.

Because being content with the purchase is personal and has to do with the heart, saying it to each other exhibits their content at completing the transaction.
