Theme: The Virtue of Merchant & Business

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever enters the marketplace and say:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكُ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَىٌّ لاَ يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

There is none worthy of worship except Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him is all the praise, He gives life and causes death, He is Living and does not die, in His Hand is the good, and He has power over all things,   Allah shall record thousands of thousands of good deeds for him, wipe thousands of thousands of evil deeds away from him, and raise thousands of thousands of ranks for him.”

Dzikr, or remembrance of Allah in our actions, has multiple benefits. One of them is as mentioned in the hadith above. It is reported that our beloved Prophet’s (ﷺ) companions (Abdullah bin Umar and others) entered the marketplace with the sole intention of reaping the rewards of the dzikr above.

On this note, it is important to remember that, beyond dzkir, istighfar (the act of seeking forgiveness from God) and tawba (repentance) are essential keys and reasons for a blessed rizq (sustenance and provision).

Surah Hud, verse 52, states: “And o my people, ask forgiveness from your Lord, and return to Him. He will send down for you rain in abundance from the sky and give you extra strength. Do not turn away and be lost in your sins”. And in surah Nuh, verse 10 to 12, says: “And said, seek your Lord’s forgiveness, for He is truly Most Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers “.
