Theme: The Virtue of Merchant & Business
Allah’s messenger (ﷺ) said:
“May Allah have mercy be on a men who (adopts a kind attitude) is lenient when he sells, and when he buys, and when he seeks back his money”.
Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah رضي الله عنهما
(Sourece: Sahih Bukhari, hadith No. 2076)
Having tolerance and lenient attitude in buying, selling and seeking money back from others is a virtue that is highly regarded in Islam. Not only that Allah’s mercy is promised for these kinds of people but in another hadith narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah the Almighty will admit a man into Paradise who was easy in his buying and selling, in his paying debt and seeking repayments”.
Being lenient (tolerance and kind attitude):
- as a buyer means to avoid argument or bargaining with the seller over the price;
- as a seller means to make things easy for the buyer and to be flexible with the price to people who are in need;
- as a creditor means to be forgiving when seeking repayments and to seek it kindly and gently without harshness and violence;
- as a debtor means to not procrastinating or evading payment, rather fulfilling it with ease and genuine willingness.
Hopefully, may Allah be lenient to us is the hereafter as Muslim that seek for His mercy and provide respite to His creations.
