Sakhr al-Ghamidi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet SAW said: “O Allah, bless my people in their early mornings.”

(Sakhr al-Ghamid mentioned) when he (the Prophet SAW) sent out a detachment or an army, he sent them at the beginning of the day.

Sakhr was a merchant, and he would send off his merchandise at the beginning of the day; and his wealth grew and increased.

Abu Dawud said: He is Sakhr bin Wada’ah.

In today’s age of information and social media, we chance upon books and blog posts on the habits of top CEOs and Founders of the most successful companies. Oftentimes, the most common answer to their recipes to success revolves around starting their days earlier than the average person. Coincidentally, this practice has already been mentioned in the Sunnah long before.

As mentioned in the above hadith, the Prophet SAW makes special du’aa for those who start their days in the early mornings. According to many scholars, the early morning is the time of blessings and barakah. The hadith further introduces a specific individual named Sakhr Bin Wada’ah al-Ghamidi, a merchant who always started his business and trade early in the mornings. Due to this, he was blessed with provisions and wealth, coupled with immense barakah.

This hadith also alludes to being disciplined in business, whereby one should be diligent in starting their day early to gain its benefits in the early mornings. This act, albeit simple and light-hearted, is a practice that should be emulated by Muslim merchants who wish to expand the blessings and wealth of their company, product or business. Seizing the blessings of our Prophet SAW prayer is an act of Sunnah which should be promoted in the community.

Let us promote the Sunnah of our Prophet SAW amongst our Muslim merchants and strive for blessed wealth and provisions in trade and business.
